Article: Creating my dream kitchen

Creating my dream kitchen

Creating my dream kitchen

About two years ago, my husband Aaron and I found ourselves happily renting a cozy house in south Austin during the midst of the pandemic. Little did we know, our lives were about to take an unexpected turn.

With housing prices skyrocketing and fierce competition in the real estate market, the dream of owning our own home seemed like a distant reality. Nonetheless, we embraced our rental home, cherishing the moments we spent there. It was during this time that I started taking classes online to learn an interior design program called Sketchup and, in my quirky way, I also found myself browsing realtor.com for fun.

A particular home caught my eye, capturing my imagination with its untapped potential. I used it as inspiration for my Sketchup projects, envisioning the kitchen as a potential showstopper. In the blink of an eye, the house disappeared from the market, and we continued to enjoy our rental bliss. However, life took an unexpected turn when our landlord informed us that the owner planned to move back in, and our lease could not be extended beyond six months.

Facing the daunting prospect of a competitive and expensive housing market, we reluctantly began our search for a new home. To our surprise, the same house that had sparked my design dreams resurfaced on the market a few months later. Intrigued and drawn to its potential, I couldn't shake the feeling that I could transform this space into something incredible.

Despite being out of our budget, we took a leap of faith and asked our realtor to show us the house. After a walkthrough, my gut feeling was confirmed—it was the perfect canvas for a transformative project. With determination and a touch of audacity, we submitted a low-ball offer, unsure of what the future held.

In the midst of a frenzied market, against all odds, our offer was accepted! The excitement was palpable, and I wasted no time diving into the transformation process. Over the past two years, our home has undergone significant changes, with the kitchen being a focal point of my creative endeavors. While there are still many projects on the horizon, I couldn't be prouder of the progress we've made.

This journey has taught me that sometimes, dreams find their way back to us in unexpected forms. It's a testament to the power of vision, determination, and the joy that comes from turning a house into a home. Stay tuned for more updates on our ongoing projects and the continued transformation of our little piece of Austin paradise.
